Event Description: Wednesday, October 15 at 8pm, and Thursday October 16 at 10am and 2pm. Delivered by the Very Rev. Michael Battle, Ph.D., chaplain to the 2008 Lambeth Conference, Provost and Canon Theologian for the Diocese of Los Angeles, and priest-in-charge of the Church of Our Saviour, San Gabriel. Dr. Battle is a former professor at the University of the South and Duke University and former academic dean at Virginia Theological Seminary. His subject will be the concept of Ubuntu: what it isn’t (self-identity through competition), what it is (self-identity through community), and its usefulness in our times as a spiritual framework for global community. Ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Desmond Tutu in 1993, Dr. Battle is a well-known writer, speaker and retreat leader. His ministry covers the globe and focuses on Christian non-violence, human spirituality, and African Church studies.
