"Horns for Guns" Program in New Orleans, September 6, 2008
St. Anna's Episcopal Church, in collaboration with Christ Church Cathedral, the New Orleans Musician’s Clinic, Sweet Home New Orleans, the New Orleans Police Department and many others, has begun a program called “Horns for Guns”, a gun buy-back program that will offer musical instruments or photography equipment in return for guns. In a one-day city-wide event, the New Orleans Police Department believes that as many as 300 weapons will be taken off the streets.

The goal of Horns for Guns is to reduce violence in the city, and to provide a creative, constructive, and life-giving outlet to the city’s youth by trading guns for musical instruments, musical training, and opportunities for counseling. Beyond buying back weapons, "Horns for Guns" will offer mental health screenings and subsequent treatment, blood pressure and diabetes screening, music and photography lessons, economic workshops and general "Health and Resilience" mentoring and programs.

St. Anna's is seeking your help in providing donations of new or lightly-used musical instruments or funding to purchase instruments, and funds for the program. Time is short though; the deadline for donations is September 3, 2008.
