The Office of the Bishop Suffragan for Federal Ministries cares for the 19,000 Episcopalians in federal service around the world – in the military, in Veterans’ Affairs Medical Centers, and in federal prisons. The continuing commitment to the wars in southwest Asiacompels us to intensify our support to those in federal service and their families. As the neglected federal prison populations swell with those detained for immigration or drug offenses, these ministries come into focus as well. We serve these populations through the recruitment and sustainment of chaplains in their midst, and the creation and support of programs and initiatives for these chaplains as well as for local parishes where military bases, VA hospitals, and federal prisons are located.
